The IB (International Baccalaureate) is a Swiss institution that authorizes schools worldwide to develop four curricula recognized worldwide for their quality and academic rigor. Through challenging and investigative programs, students at IB schools undergo a unique assessment system, whose results are valued internationally.

International Baccalaureate is a non-profit educational foundation that offers four programs for students aged 4 to 19. With a focus on students, the program aims to develop intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a globalized world.

Since 2014, Gurilândia International School has been authorized by the IB to offer the PYP Program for students aged 3 to 11 years, from cycle I of Early Childhood Education to Elementary School (5th year).

In May 2021, Land School was authorized by the International Baccalaureate to fully develop the MYP program. We are very proud and happy to have been awarded our certificate! This is a recognition of the efforts of our entire pedagogical team, which since 2019, has demonstrated commitment to the methodological approach of the program.

This also reveals the competence of our teachers in developing interdisciplinary teaching units, following in detail the assessment precepts recommended by the implementation guides.

Land School is the first school in the North-Northeast of Brazil to achieve this authorization!

What is the IB Middle Years Program (MYP)?

The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) for students aged 11-16 provides a learning framework that encourages them to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to relate their studies to traditional subjects, and is flexible enough to accommodate the demands of most national or local curricula. It builds on the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in the MYP, and prepares students for the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Program (DP) and the IB Vocational Program (CP).

The MYP is an adaptable program and enables the content of the National Curriculum Framework (BNCC) to be explored. The difference is that we use the concept-based approach in conjunction with active methodologies. In this sense, children are encouraged to become active individuals in the process of searching for knowledge and analysis.

Can I see the reflection of the learning process at home?

MYP works with global contexts, and this brings reality into the classroom with the development of interdisciplinary task.

Beside that, we also work on:

  • Critical, creative and ethical thinking.
  • Research skills based on method and facts.
  • Development of active reading and listening, writing and speaking in more than two languages.
  • Maintaining healthy relationships and developing the ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Self-management and organization.

Therefore, if your kids start asking questions that seem to be “beyond expectations”, don’t be alarmed! This is the result of an education based on Land School’s mission — to form a new generation of transformational individuals, capable of achieving personal and professional fulfillment with ethics and social responsibility.
