English as an Additional Language
This club is specially designed for students who have not yet reached the expected level of English proficiency for their respective grades. The school's pedagogical team is responsible for identifying and recommending participation in this course.
Our students are encouraged to participate in various national and regional Academic Olympiads to test their knowledge and enhance their skills in a competitive environment. They receive after-school training for these competitions with a specialist subject teacher, and we couldn't be prouder of their outstanding results year after year. These experiences prepare them to manage stress and perform well under pressure, which are essential skills for excelling at university and in the modern workplace.
Our students have earned dozens of medals across prestigious competitions such as the National Science Olympiad, the National Astronomy Olympiad, the Brazilian Math Olympics, the State Mathematical Olympiad, and the Kangaroo Math Olympics. These achievements showcase our students' exceptional preparation by our expert teachers and their combined dedication to academic excellence.
Students have the opportunity to explore dance and music lessons within the curriculum, with the option to join ballet and jazz classes as extracurricular pursuits. Students in 8th grade and above can dive into the world of diplomacy at the school's Model United Nations (MUN) club. MUN is an international club where students participate in realistic simulations of UN meetings and sessions, representing various positions and countries, discussing different topics, and proposing solutions to real-world global issues. Through this experience, they gain a deep understanding of global dynamics and develop essential skills in negotiation, leadership, argumentation, and problem-solving.
Beyond improving fitness levels, healthy development, and coordination, participating in sports activities nurtures social skills such as teamwork and leadership, while instilling discipline and personal responsibility. Engaging in extracurricular sports can enhance students' self-esteem, provide a positive outlet for stress, and impart valuable lessons in perseverance and overcoming challenges. Sports are a key element of a Land School education, and therefore we offer a wide range of individual and team sports led by expert coaches, including volleyball, foot volleyball, soccer, beach tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, chess, and martial arts like judo and karate.
Additionally, students participate in the Land Cup intra-school soccer competition, as well as multi-sport tournaments with other schools in the region.
Volleyball provides students with a platform to develop teamwork, communication, and leadership skills, while promoting physical fitness, concentration, and resilience, contributing to holistic growth both on and off the court.
Foot volleyball provides students with a fun and challenging way of improving their technical skills, physical conditioning, and teamwork, while promoting socialization and cooperation between participants, encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle.
Rhythmic gymnastics offers students the opportunity to work on grace, flexibility, and coordination, promoting not only physical fitness but also mental discipline, confidence, and artistic expression.
Karate offers students a unique combination of mental discipline, physical conditioning, and self-defense techniques. It promotes not only physical skills but also self-confidence, focus, and mutual respect.
At Land School, we offer a wealth of educational initiatives to broaden our students' perspectives, develop essential skills, and prepare them for life beyond the classroom. These include literature gatherings with Brazilian writers, our annual Science and Technology Fair, the Land Cup intra-school sports competitions, and the Thematic Symposium, which so far has led to two of our senior students publishing and then presenting their articles at an international conference. We also empower future entrepreneurs through our innovative Land Enterprise Challenge inspired by the 'Shark Tank' concept and host an annual Land Talks event focusing on developing student communication and public speaking abilities. Each of these experiences aims to nurture unique talents and prepare students for success at university and in their future careers.
Our thematic symposium aims to develop critical thinking and scientific expertise through research and the sharing of knowledge acquired from various sessions. Students select a research topic from thematic axes chosen by the school, develop an extended abstract, and prepare a 10-minute oral presentation, which is evaluated by a panel of academics. Recently, two of our senior students published the articles they produced during this symposium in scientific journals and presented them on the international stage. Both students presented their papers at different editions of the International Conference on Technology, Science, and Education for Sustainable Development, organized by the Centre International de Formation Européenne.
Land Enterprise Challenge
In the Land Enterprise Challenge, inspired by the concept of 'Shark Tank', students form groups to create a startup based on the basic principles of management discussed as part of the curriculum. Their aim is to brainstorm an innovative idea or implement a pre-existing one as the foundation for their startup. To this end, students go on enriching field trips and receive administrative advice before presenting their ideas to a panel of 'sharks', who will offer feedback to make each team's concept even more tangible.
This challenge simulates the process of bringing a business idea to life, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset in our students, and preparing them to thrive in future managerial and creative positions.
Land Talks
The ability to use communication effectively is highly valued at university, in the workplace, and in greater society, which is why we place great importance on developing excellent public speaking skills at Land School. Recruiters seek individuals who can articulate ideas clearly, master presentations and storytelling, work well in teams, listen actively, and solve complex problems. To showcase our teachers' efforts in enhancing students' communication skills and to give students a platform to demonstrate their public speaking abilities on an array of topics, we annually host the Land Talks event. Inspired by the TED Talks format, this event allows students to present their ideas to the entire school community.
Within the field of film studies and video production, we organize an annual Exhibition and Awards event for student-produced films, helping them prepare for future careers in digital media while recognizing talent and hard work.
The Science Fair inspires scientific curiosity, investigation, experimentation, and critical thinking while stimulating creativity and communication skills. This event provides a practical approach to learning science, allowing students to engage in hands-on projects, apply classroom concepts, and take an active role in their learning. By developing research and experimentation skills, collecting data, analyzing results, and drawing conclusions, students find science more accessible and relevant, enhancing their interest in the subject and preparing for future university studies and careers in scientific fields.
