The Brazilian Curriculum Pathway

The Brazilian Curriculum Pathway for High School students at Land – A Gurilândia School is meticulously designed to meet individual needs and offer the highest educational standards. Emphasizing skills and competencies outlined in the Brazilian National Core Curriculum (BNCC), which have been developed since the Elementary School years, this program aims to foster academic excellence, autonomy, leadership, and a strong foundation of skills, values, and ethics among our students in Grades 10 to 12.

At Land School, the Brazilian Curriculum goes beyond preparing students for national university entrance exams. Within our vibrant learning environment, designed to equip students for the demands of the future, this program aims to instill in them the confidence and competence to navigate the challenges of academic and professional life effectively.

Why Choose the Brazilian Pathway at Our School?

Students in the Brazilian Curriculum pathway in high school receive personalized support from our dedicated team of educators and psychologists. They help develop tailored study routines that enhance time management skills, address personal strengths and weaknesses, and assist students in excelling under exam pressure across subjects, ensuring outstanding results throughout high school and during final exams. These routines are closely monitored to boost individual achievement and include mock exams to prepare students for real assessments and the ENEM exams, as well as other regional or state university admission exams like USP and Unicamp.

Additionally, to ensure complete English proficiency for our students in the Brazilian curriculum pathway, the International Baccalaureate (IB) English B High-Level course is mandatory for all, earning them an internationally recognized certificate that can be used for university admissions and job applications.

Exceptional Enrichment Programs

Learners in the Brazilian Curriculum pathway actively engage in literary and scientific literacy activities, including themed symposiums where they develop and present innovative scientific research proposals. Some of our top-performing students have published their work in international academic journals following these annual symposiums. Additionally, all students benefit from extracurricular clubs and activities that cater to diverse interests and talents, such as music, robotics, languages, and sports, fostering valuable skills for life beyond school.

The Brazilian curriculum pathway at High School aims to prepare creative, critical-thinking, and academically successful students with strong literary, scientific, and technological literacy.

Program

Brazilian Diploma Program

In our Brazilian curriculum pathway in high school, we provide the essential components mandated by the Common National Curriculum Base (BNCC), along with additional disciplines such as film studies, the IB English program, and competitive sports, ensuring students are fully prepared to excel in the ENEM (final High School national exam) and university admission exams.

As members of the Inspired Education Group, we are committed to offering a holistic approach to education that extends beyond mere content memorization, exam preparation, or academics. In addition to academic excellence, we aim to inspire and instill healthy habits in our students' lives, valuing sports and performing arts alongside traditional subjects. Inspired’s student-centered approach yields outstanding results in final examinations, ensuring admission to leading universities in Brazil and worldwide.

Subjects

Brazilian Curriculum Subjects

At Land School, we offer all the curricular components required by Brazilian law (BNCC). Students explore traditional subjects, including Portuguese, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Arts, Physical Education, English, Philosophy, Geography, History, and Sociology. Mathematics and Portuguese are mandatory subjects throughout the three years of high school.

In addition, we offer a portfolio of curricular components, including Film Studies, Language and Literature (English A), or Language Acquisition (English B), which provide immersion in the English language. Students can also take Spanish or French as extracurricular subjects.

Brazilian Curriculum Assessment & Grades

Within the Brazilian curriculum at our school, students are continually assessed using a series of formative and summative instruments that provide valuable feedback on their learning process. We produce quarterly reports within the national curriculum which are based on both quantitative and qualitative assessments. These reports indicate ways to improve academically and boost performance and are shared with students and their families.

Mock Exams & Bespoke Preparation

Throughout high school, Brazilian diploma students participate in mock evaluations simulating the main national exams, which help shape their study strategies. These mock exams effectively prepare students for the ENEM (final High School examinations taken at a national level), and for the different university admissions exams, allowing them to assess their readiness for the actual tests, understand the material, identify areas of weakness, adjust their study strategies, and become familiar with the exam format for each subject.

Based on our students' performance, we build an individual learning itinerary that also focuses on:

  • Developing time management skills
  • Receiving feedback and identifying learning gaps
  • Building resilience to exam pressure across subjects

Learn more about the Brazilian Diploma

How is a Brazilian Diploma useful?

The Brazilian Diploma is essential for admission to Brazilian universities. It is a pre-requisite for enrolling in preparatory courses for competitive exams (like the vestibulares) and other continuing education programs that can enhance career prospects.

Many institutions require it for national exams like the ENEM, which is a primary pathway to higher education in Brazil. It also qualifies students for various scholarship programs offered by Brazilian institutions, private organizations, and government agencies. While the diploma is a national credential, it is recognized by international institutions, particularly when complemented with strong exam scores, enabling students to apply to universities abroad.

Moreover, the Brazilian Diploma allows students to enroll in professional and technical courses that require a high school diploma, facilitating further specialization.

It is also a minimum requirement for many entry-level jobs in Brazil.

The ENEM Exams

The ENEM is a comprehensive exam that assesses students' knowledge across various subjects. It is divided into two stages over two days: the first day covers Languages, Humanities, and an essay, while the second day focuses on Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Each exam consists of 45 multiple-choice questions. The Item Response Theory (IRT) is used to calculate the final score, considering the difficulty of the questions and the answer pattern. The essay is evaluated using specific criteria, including mastery of formal writing, argumentation, cohesion, and respect for human rights.

The scores obtained in the ENEM exams can be used in university admissions and applications for other educational programs. The final score is calculated based on the marks for each test and the essay, weighted according to the exam criteria. This generates a weighted average, resulting in the participant's final score. ENEM scores are published on a scale from 0 to 1000 points, with the national average typically ranging between 560 and 660. The ENEM result is a valuable tool for various purposes, such as admission to higher education institutions, scholarships, and personal performance analysis to identify strengths and areas of improvement.
